Welcome to WADE, The Washington Association of Diabetes Educators
A committee was formed. They did a lot of research on how to set up this fund correctly and met with the family. Because of tax purposes the fund must be placed in a charitable organization. WADE is a non-profit organization but not a charitable organization. The monies will be sent to the AADE Foundation and we can have access to them at any time.
We are excited to announce that this year the Karen Schulz Goldstein Memorial Lecture Fund will sponsor the session that Dr. Irl Hirsch will do for our annual conference in May, 2010. Karen had a special relationship with Dr. Hirsch and it meant a lot to her family to give him the honor of being the first speaker.
We have a great start to this fund. So far, we have over $5000.00. Plans are underway to have a silent auction at the annual conference to raise more money. If you have an interest in helping with the silent auction or would like to donate an item to be auctioned off please contact Pat Haldi.
If you are interested in donating to Karen's Memorial Fund, WADE, a nonprofit organization, is accepting donations for this fund by check or credit card. All donations are tax deductible.
Make a check out to AADE Foundation with “Karen” in the memo line so that your donation will be directed to Karen's Memorial Fund.

KAREN GOLDSTEIN MEMORIAL LECTURE FUND BENEFITTED BY SILENT AUCTION PROCEEDS:
Thank you to all who participated in donating baskets or taking their chance on the raffle and silent auction. We had a lot of fun guessing how much money was in the money jar?? and who would get the free room at the Hyatt for a nice “get away weekend”.
We raised a total of $2865.00 for the lecture fund. That will help us secure many more years of skilled speakers for our annual conferences in the future.
Thank you to Dr. Irl Hirsch who gave the inaugural lecture-Glucose Variability and Pattern Management: Way Beyond Logbooks. His words about Karen were comforting and inspiring. His lecture was an occasion for us to stay on the cutting edge of diabetes management.
Thank you to Karen’s family. We were happy that you could join us and we are grateful that you have allowed us this opportunity to enhance our conference and honor Karen’s memory.
