Silent Auction

Change is inevitable – except from a vending machine. ~Robert C. Gallagher
As Kermit the Frog would say, “It’s not easy being green.” Going “green” involves changing the way we are used to doing things. I have to admit I was resistant to going green. I’m used to having things the way I like them. It’s comfortable. When it comes to conferences, I like having a paper brochure mailed to me so I can register the way I’m used to registering. And I like having a conference packet containing paper copies of speaker slides available to me at the conference. But as I am going on my own eco-journey, I’m finding out that change and going green can be a good thing. Did you know that every year more than 900 million trees are cut down to provide raw materials for the 600+ pounds of paper each American uses annually? When I think about this it makes me consider what I can do to reduce my consumption of paper. Therefore when the planning committee discussed ways WADE could be greener I agreed that reducing the amount of paper used at the annual conference is a big way we can help the environment. Changes were made and registration for this year’s annual conference will be online.
Here are some tips to assist you with registration this year.
When you open your invitation for the annual conference you will see the option of responding “yes” or “no” at the bottom of the page. This is asking whether you want to register for the conference right now (yes) or decline the invitation (no). You may also choose to wait to register until another time. The invitation will be sent a couple more times if you don’t respond at all. You may want to keep your invitation in your email inbox for the time when you do want to register.
After selecting “yes”, you will be directed into the registration process. Each page may be printed for you to keep a paper copy of your registration. Just complete the page and select the print screen button at the top of each page. (You cannot print out the registration without completing it as you go.)
If you need to submit the paper copy of your registration to your employer for expenses, just select the option to “pay by check” before completing the registration. Then send the check to Kathy Fitzpatrick RN, MN, CDE, 3429 167th Ave SE, Bellevue, 98008. Kathy’s address is also listed on the registration page.
In addition to printing out the registration pages, the agenda, location, directions, and hotel information may also be printed out by clicking on the Blue Tabs at the top of the page.
FAQ’s
· What do I do if I registered in the wrong category (member, associate member, nonmember) and am being charged the wrong fee?
Email Kathy Fitzpatrick at wade2010@gmail.com. She will need to change your “registration type.” Kathy will also either credit your credit card or refund your overpayment.
· How do I know what level of membership to register for the conference?
--- Active member of WADE holds duel membership with both AADE and WADE. You must input your AADE number to get the active member level for registration.
--- Associate / Corporate member belongs to WADE. If you are an employee of a company that markets diabetes products you should select this category. You do not need to be a member of AADE.
--- Nonmember does not have membership with WADE.
· What options do I have for paying my registration fee?
You may pay with either credit card or check.
· Will there be a one-day pass to the 2010 conference this year?
We are unable to offer a one-day pass this year. The planning committee worked very hard to provide a strong educational program and keep costs low for attendees. We had to make some tough decisions to keep the conference financially healthy. You will find excellent educational opportunities on both Friday and Saturday this year.
How many continuing education credits are available from the program this year?
There are 9 CE credits for RNs and Pharm Ds. RDs have 10 credits.
Will there be paper copies of speaker slides available this year?
As part of our “going green” theme this year, conference attendees will be responsible for printing their own slides prior to the conference. The slides will be available on the WADE website about 2 weeks prior to the conference. You will receive an email informing you when slides are available.
How do I register for a hotel room?
There are 2 ways to register for your room this year. We have obtained a fantastic room rate of $109 per night and we hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to stay at the Bellevue Hyatt during the conference. You may call in to make reservations by calling 888-421-1442 or 402-592-6464 and reference WADE Conference 2010. Early bird discount for room rate of $109 ends on April 14th. You may also click on the link under the Venue page and this will take you to online registration for a hotel room.
Are scholarships available to cover registration fees?
Yes, there are 4 scholarships available. Please see the article titled “Scholarship Information.”
Can I email the invitation to my friends/colleagues?
Yes, please do. On page 2 of the registration program there is a space for inserting names and email addresses of people you would like to invite to the conference. We appreciate your sending the invitation to at least 2 of your friends/colleagues and helping us advertise our conference.
For other questions, please email Kathy Fitzpatrick or Mary Janci at 2010wade@gmail.com
Previous WADE activities, AADE activities, clinic/hospital work experience, community projects, publications, presentations, how the information from the conference will be used, any other information that would be helpful to determine eligibility.
How fun is that? Your WADE Silent Auction Committee is seeking committee members and donations for this event! There are 3 ways you can help!
First, join our Committee! We need help with procuring donations, and helping with set-up and management during the meeting.
Second, donate an item for the auction. Ask your friends and business associates to help. Successful items tend to be jewelry, electronics, and trips. Remember, members come to our meeting from all over the state, so don’t forget to ask your local vendors. Perhaps a nice wine basket from our prolific vineyards. Or other food items. Have a hobby? Maybe a “Newborn Basket” with a quilted blanket, a plant for Father’s Day, or a beautiful water color scene… I know a WADE Member that makes wonderful glass beaded jewelry (you know who you are)! Also consider these suggestions:
Vacation Destinations – Do you or someone you know have a vacation home, condo or time share? Please consider donating accommodations for a week.
Gift Cards – Do you have a gift card for a national chain restaurant, bookstore, clothing store, etc. that you don’t think you’ll use? Donate it to the Silent Auction and you can write it off!
Vendors –Sales people are often good sources of event tickets – sports, music, theater. They occasionally have access to incentive gifts and other items that they might be willing to donate, you just have to ask. We will accept branded/imprinted items.
Diabetes Education Resources – Many of you have developed tools for diabetes education. Here’s an opportunity to promote yourself, while supporting WADE.
You never know what someone can give until you ask! All you have to do is make initial contact with the potential donor and provide contact information to one of the Auction Committee members. We will be happy to follow up on your behalf.
Third? Buy Buy Buy! Items will be listed at wadepage.org prior to the Annual Conference. The Silent Auction will take place throughout the conference, at which time you can place your bid!
All proceeds will benefit the Karen Shultz-Goldstein Memorial Lecture Fund. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
